Longer Fingers and Bands

People with longer fingers have it fairly easy, as they can choose a band of nearly any width. When choosing a ring, start by looking at how much real estate it takes up on the length of your finger. If you have a wide band but short fingers, you'll find that it is very easy to overwhelm your hand. Unless you want a ring that creates the illusion of reaching from knuckle to knuckle, choose something with a something with a slimmer band if you have short fingers.

Fashion runways and women's closets are seeing more and more high waisted jeans in recent years.  Today's high waisted jeans are cut with a real woman's body in mind.  Many contain a small amount of lycra for comfort, and hit right at a woman's natural waistline rather than above.  They come in all kinds of widths, ranging from wide-leg, skinny, straight or boot cut.  These jeans are being worn by all body shapes and sizes.   The idea behind wearing them successfully can be summed up in one word: balance.

Fit

Extra fabric at the bottom of a high waisted jean can balance out the extra fabric at the top.  Therefore, unless a woman is very tall and thin, the boot cut, boyfriend or slave-leg jean bottom gives a more balanced look.

Proper fit is crucial to successfully carrying off the high waisted jean look.  The top of the jean should rise above the curve of the hip and lightly grip it, while the waist rests immediately below the belly button.  Pay particular attention to the fit through the hips and inseams.

The jeans should fit snugly without being too tight, and fall from the natural waistline to the tops of the feet just below the ankle bone.  Zipped jeans can give a nice, smooth appearance.  However, if button front jeans are chosen, they should fit well and not bulge open in front.  This can sometimes mean choosing jeans in a size larger so that the button mechanism will lie flat, and having them taken in by a tailor, if necessary.

Color and Pockets

Like other styles of jeans, the high waisted variety comes in a plethora of colors.  The most figure flattering jeans come in a dark wash.  Dark blue denim or black are the standard slenderizing colors, but other colors can work also.   Large, flat hip pockets can do a lot visually to minimize the excess fabric on the backsides of high waisted jeans.  Invisible slit pockets on the sides work well, also.  The point is to give a nice visual effect without adding excess bulk.  Therefore, fill pockets sparingly, if at all.

Blouses

The choice of a blouse can greatly affect the way high waisted jeans do their magic on a woman's figure.  This look definitely calls for the blouse to be tucked in.   To elongate the figure, one should create a continuous line from head to toe.  Plus size women look better in a singular, or near-match color worn on top and bottom.  Accessories such as scarves, thin belts or even vests or sweaters in contrasting colors work well, so long as they do not break the line created by the blouse and jeans.

Tall, thin women can successfully wear contrasting colored blouses or small patterns with high waisted jeans.  In both cases, it is better to choose a blouse that is constructed of thinner fabric that can be tucked into the jeans without bulk.  Avoid thick ribbing and other heavily textured or thick fabrics that might bunch up under the waistband.  Body suits work very well with high waisted jeans.

Shoes

Beloved for their ability to elongate the torso and minimize the waist, high waisted jeans should always be worn with appropriate footwear.  Making the correct shoe selections for wear with high waisted jeans depends on one's height and weight.  Taller women should opt for low-heeled or flat shoes, and women who are on the short side, look better in higher heels to balance out the look.

Think Professional:

Your HR manual may have some workplace style guidelines, so mine them for clues on what to wear. For your first day, wear a professional outfit such as a suit or trousers, a nice blouse and a blazer. This might feel stiff, but you do want to make a good impression. On day one, size up your office mates. Pay attention to how managers dress as well as to what your peer employees wear. Are people wearing color or neutrals? Do women wear the latest fashions? What type of jewelry do your peers wear?

Espouse Traditional:

Certain staple pieces never go out of style, so investing in these makes sense. Think cardigans, turtleneck sweaters, pencil skirts and black high heels. Industry Change

The fashion industry is growing and changing to accommodate today’s bigger waistlines. According to a 2012 National Center for Health Statistics data brief, almost 41 million American women age 20 and older are considered obese. That’s a lot of women shopping in the plus-sized department. As retailers struggle to combat the effects of today’s recession, they can no longer afford to ignore this huge market segment. Many retailers are opening specialty stores that cater to larger-sized women and use plus-sized models exclusively in their advertising campaigns and promotional events. For example, H&M recently launched Fashion to Figure, The Limited created Eloquii, and Hot Topic opened its Torrid shops. There’s even an annual Full Figured Fashion Week in New York City.

Branching Out

It’s not just plus-sized brands that are employing plus-sized models. Curvy girls have gone mainstream in recent years. They regularly appear on the pages of fashion magazines as part of special columns and features about fashion for larger women, like Marie Claire’s regularly appearing “Big Girl in a Skinny World”. In 2009, Glamour famously printed nude photos of plus-sized models to an overwhelmingly positive reader response. Some of fashion’s top designers are using larger models now, too. Robyn Lawley, a gorgeous size 12 who’s graced the covers of French Elle and Vogue Italia, just signed on to become the first plus-sized model at the center of a Ralph Lauren campaign.

Talent Management

Many top modeling agencies now maintain plus-sized divisions in order to meet the industry’s growing demand for different body types. The W Curve division of Wilhelmina Models boasts talent that’s appeared on runways, in French and American Vogue, and in Cover Girl ads. There are also a growing number of boutique modeling agencies that manage only plus-sized talent, like IPM Model Management, whose models have worked for designers like Calvin Klein and Michael Kors and graced the pages of Glamour and Essence magazines. An April 2012 press release from La Mode Modeling Academy in London states, “there are lots of companies promoting fashion shows which require plus-size models and we've seen a surge in demand over recent months.” They attribute this trend to a culture that’s “all about keeping it real” and companies promoting clothes that can be worn by average-sized women.

Caveat

While today’s culture celebrating body-type diversity and the ability for consumers to voice their opinions through web sites and social media have undoubtedly increased the demand for plus-sized models who more accurately represent today’s women, PLUS Model Magazine warns that plus-sized is being downsized. The magazine notes that a decade ago, the average plus-sized model was between a size 12 and 18, but today, most agencies’ plus-sized girls are between sizes six and 14, still smaller than the average woman. So, while the demand for larger models is definitely on the upswing, only time will tell just how big will be considered beautiful in the modeling world of tomorrow.

Color combinations are often worn to reflect the changing season and during the New Year, it’s normal to see a full sequin dress being fashioned by multiple people. There once was a time when the fashion industry completely ignored the plus-size market. The "thin is in" mentality has been replaced by a full embrace of the plus-size market. Mercedes Gonzalez, director of Global Purchasing Group, likens the trend to when the fashion industry started to move beyond younger demographics. Millions of women fall into the size 12 or larger category, a size once ignored by most major designers. Today, the plus-size market generates nearly $20 billion on annual sales. Now, the fashion industry wants a share of this market.

No Longer Confined to Specialty Stores

Just a decade or so ago, the only real option for plus-size women was specialty stores and shops like Marina Rinaldi and Lane Bryant. In the early 2000s, Lane Bryant made headlines with a major marketing effort to bring plus-size fashion into the mainstream. The choices for plus-size fashions have changed since then. Tent-like clothes designed to conceal the figure as much as possible have been replaced by styles that embrace the fuller figured woman. Retailers now offering plus-size fashions are experiencing dramatic increases in sales. Plus-size retailer Torrid, for example, plans to open 15 new stores in 2012 due to record sales figures for 2011. Lane Bryant also reported a sales boost, up 7% in 2011.

Major Designers Take Notice

It's only been within the last decade that major designers have finally realized the potential for the plus-size market. Today, top designers such as Donna Karan, Anne Kelin, Dana Buchman, Tommy Hilfiger and Oscar de la Renta are all offering plus-size fashion lines. Specialty shops are no longer the only place plus-size shoppers have to choose from when looking for stylish fashion choices. Macys, Kmart and JC Penney are just some of the retailers embracing the plus-size market. Betsy McLaughlin of Hot Topic says that she has seen "girls actually cry" when they find stylish and comfortable outfits in their size."

Redefining 'Average'

The average woman, according to recent statistics, is 5'4'' tall and weighs between 140 to 160 pounds and wears a size 14. Using fashion industry standards, the majority of the female population is overweight. Sizes 0 through 4 aren't the norm in the real world. According to one estimate, the average dress size has jumped from a size 6 in the 1950s to a size 14. Retailers are starting to come to the realization that there is an entire market out there waiting to be served.

Improving Self-Image

Campaigns launched by Fruit of the Loom and Dove are part of efforts to promote a healthy self-image in women by embracing all shapes and sizes. Campaigns like these hope to change the conventional wisdom - that still exists to some extent in the fashion industry - that women size 12 and over simply do not care about fashion. Currently, the major incentive for designers and retailers to target a "new" market and take advantage of potential revenue. Another important part of the effort to embrace the plus size market is to promote a better sense of self-image.

High Profile Plus-size Fashion Shows

In 2010, the first plus-size fashion show took place during New York City's Fashion Week bringing out curvy stars like Nikki Blonsky, model Emme, Gabourey Sidibe, and KayCee Stroh. This was landmark move in the fashion world, since Fashion Week attracts the attention of designers from around the world. This is just one of several plus-size events designed to put a fun spin on a market once mostly ignored by the major designers.

While the fashion industry is actively going after the plus-size market, the focus is still on thinner models. Although some fashion observers note that "scary thin" models are no longer en vogue like they were in the 80s and 90s. In today's economy, it simply doesn't pay to ignore a major market segment. Those in the plus-size market say that i might be time to embrace another untapped market - plus-size fashions for teens. Like most industries today, the fashion industry has realized that it cannot afford to be as selective. As Confucius once said, "Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it."

Also there are Roamans Plus Size Leggings which comes in white and goes up to 4X, although I am not sure how long the white sequin top is.
